Vietnamese Raw Beef “Salad”


Vietnamese Raw Beef Salad, yes, i know it’s hardly a salad, but that’s what it’s called haha


  • One 6oz beef flank steak
  • Quarter of a red onion
  • 1 cup thai basil leaves
  • 6 red chilis (more or less depending on how you like your heat)
  • 2 clove Garlic, chopped
  • 2 tbsp dried onion flakes (bought at asian supermarket)


  • 2 tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 4 tbsp water
  • 2 tsp white sugar


  1. Freeze the flank steak
  2. while still frozen, use mandolin to thinly slice the beef
  3. use mandolin to slice onions and chili
  4. Plate the beef, onions, add the garlic, dried onions, and basil leaves on top
  5. Combine the ingredients for the sauce and pour over the plate of beef
  6. let it marinate for about 20 min before serving
