Asian Buns!


I love asian baking, their buns are always so fluffy!

Ingredients: Makes about 10 – 12 buns (depending on what you put inside)

  • 2 1/2 cup bread flour
  • 3 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 120 g tang zhong (instructions below)
  • 2 tsp yeast
  • 3 tbsp butter (softened and cubed)
  • 4 slices of ham, cut to pieces
  • 1/2 cup corn
  • 3 tbsp kewpie mayo
  • Pack of hotdogs (i used cheddar hotdogs)

Tang Zhong:

  • 1/3 cup bread flour
  • 1 cup water
  1. Stir together the water and bread flour, once the heat hits this mixture it should turn to a paste, set aside

Buns Directions:

  1. warm the milk and stir in the yeast and set aside for 10 minutes
  2. mix together flour, sugar, salt, egg, and yeast mixture (Using kitchen aid bread extension)
  3. continue mixing and drop in the butter, continue kneading the bread
  4. add in the tang zhong
  5. place into a bowl and cover, let rise for 1 hour
  6. once raised, divide into equal sections, rolling them into balls and let rise again for another hour
  7. while waiting, mix the corn, ham and mayo together and set aside
  8. once the bread has rested, preheat the oven to 350F
  9. wrap the dough around each hot dog, or form a crater in the middle and spoon the corn and ham mixture into the center
  10. brush the bun with egg wash
  11. bake at 350F for 12-14 minutes or until golden
