Cupcake Bouquets

Getting a bouquet of flowers is always nice, but what’s even better? Edible bouquets!… Wait, what’s even better than that? CUPCAKES. That seems to be the answer to everything.

Here you have 2 choices, the fast and easy way or the completely-homemade-impress-everybody way:
Fast and Easy recipe:
Cupcake ingredients: Cake mix
Icing ingredients: Duncan Hines icing in a can

Cupcake Ingredients: Makes 16 cupcakes
  • 1 1/3 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder   
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 teaspoon
     vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk

Ingredients: Makes 3 cups of icing

  • 1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a muffin pan with paper or foil liners. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla. Add the flour mixture alternately with the milk; beat well. Fill the muffin cups 3/4 full.
  3. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Frost with your favorite frosting when cool.
Icing Directions:
  1. In large bowl, cream shortening and butter with electric mixer
  2. Add vanilla, Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed
  3. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often
  4. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry
  5. Add milk and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy
  6. Keep bowl covered with a damp cloth until ready to use
Bouquet Instructions: 
 
Okay here comes the part where you have to rearrange everything to look presentable. Can be tricky but we have some tips for you!
Materials:
  • Flower pot
  • Styrofoam ball (Large) -OR- a plastic leaf ball (Large)
  • make sure they all fit into the pot perfectly
  • Toothpicks for the Styrofoam ball – OR- Skewers for the plastic leaf ball
  • Fake leaves

Instructions for Styrofoam Ball:

  1. Wash the flower pot
  2. stick Styrofoam ball into the pot and make sure it’s sturdy! 
  3. Apply glue if needed
  4. use a pencil to roughly estimate where the cupcakes will go
  5. Stick TWO (this will prevent the cupcakes from falling off the sticks) toothpicks into the Styrofoam and attach leaves where you want them
  6. Pierce the cupcakes into the toothpicks
Instructions for Plastic Leaf Ball:
  1. Wash the flower pot
  2. stick Plastic Leaf Ball into the pot and make sure it’s sturdy! 
  3. Apply glue if needed
  4. Stick TWO (this will prevent the cupcakes from falling off the sticks) skewers into the Styrofoam and attach leaves where you want them
  5. Pierce the cupcakes into the skewers
 
VIOLA! You now have the most delicious bouquet you can ever give anyone!
